Interested? If so, read on...
++ The 2018 Wisconsin USATF Junior Olympics state outdoor championships meet is Saturday, June 16, at Carroll University, Waukesha WI. It's a large, all-day track & field meet with a fairly high level of competition, open to youth of all ages -- but Wisconsin residents only.
++ Every year since 2011, multiple Track Club families have gone (it is becoming a growing tradition, yet it's totally optional.) Around 20 athletes and their families made the trip last year.
++ Athletes compete in 2-year age groups, which for USATF events specifically are defined by the athlete's age as of December 31, 2018.
In 2018, the USATF age groups are:
7-8 (born in 2010-2011)
9-10 (born in 2008-2009)
11-12 (born in 2006-2007)
13-14 (born in 2004-2005)
15-16 (born in 2002-2003)
17-18 (born in 2000-2001)
++ IF you want to go, your athlete must be a registered member of USATF (obtain membership on your own at www.usatf.org, and make sure to choose "La Crosse Track Club" for your team affiliation during the USATF registration process.)
++ All new USATF members MUST also have ages verified by sending a copy of their birth certificate to the USATF Wisconsin membership chair (email@example.com). Renewing USATF members will not need to do this, as long as membership has not lapsed.
++ Once you have obtained your USATF membership AND have completed the age verification step, you will need to choose your events and pay the fee using the online La Crosse Track Club's link (the green box above). Do NOT sign up for the meet via USATF or Athletic.net on your own... if you do, you will NOT be listed as part of our team! But please remember that the USATF registration/age verification steps MUST be completed first, so do that right away and don't wait for the last minute.
++ If your athlete would like to run on a relay team, please indicate such when you choose the events. Track Club coaches will see if there are enough interested participants in that age group to form a team. Age groups are STRICTLY enforced at USATF meets.
++ Top eight finishers in each event qualify for the USATF Region 8 meet, which will be in Ames at Iowa State University this year, over the weekend of July 5-8th. And the top five finishers in the Region 8 meet qualify to Nationals (optional of course) if you want to see what competition looks like at the highest level!
++ We have a team hotel and a great discount rate for the Waukesha meet. Rooms are limited. Inquire with Coach Dan for details and book as soon as possible.
